High school students’ friendship network, physical activity and residential locations – a stochastic actor based model

چکیده
Abstract Evidence shows that adolescents do not enough physical activity (PA), which could contribute to childhood overweight and obesity. Studies have shown both the built environment social networks influence adolescents’ PA, but more studies are needed investigate their combined using longitudinal data. We used a stochastic actor-based model analyzing two waves of Add Health data test if (1) home location has significant on high school student’s friendships, (2) neighborhood PA while controlling for friendship networks. The results indicate students’ level emulated peers’ levels students who lived closer together, increased likelihood forming friendships. However, variables described residential neighborhoods did show dynamics. This study contributes our understanding joint impacts friend dynamics in urban settings.

متن کاملCompliance with wearing physical activity accelerometers in high school students.
BACKGROUND Accelerometer use in physical activity research has become increasingly popular but is prone to problems with missing data, which complicate the data reduction and analysis process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hypothesized compliance strategies on improving compliance with wearing a physical activity accelerometer in high school students. METHODS Each o...

INTRODUCTION Alternative high school (AHS) students are an underserved population of youth at greater risk for poor health behaviors and outcomes. Little is known about their physical activity patterns. PURPOSE : The purpose of this study was to describe 1) physical activity levels of students attending alternative high schools (AHS) in St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN, and 2) compliance with wearing...
متن کاملThe relationship between school physical activity policy and objectively measured physical activity of elementary school students: a multilevel model analysis
BACKGROUND There is evidence of school level variability in the physical activity of children and youth. Less is known about factors that may contribute to this variation. The purpose of this study was to examine if the school health environment (Healthy Physical Environment, Instruction and Programs, Supportive Social Environment, and Community Partnerships) is associated with objectively meas...
